ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
Is there a way to jump to a specific page in ID CS? You know, where you click a command or press a shortcut; a dialog box appears; you enter a number, click OK, and are taken directly to that page? Or must one always scroll through the Pages palette?

At the bottom left of an open document is a navigation system simlar to Acrobat's; you can click in the "page box" and enter a page number.

Re: ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
You can also type Ctrl-J to highlight the page number field, enter a number and press return. The fast way.

Re: ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
What Steve said.
It's weird they didn't include "Jump to Page" as one of the page nav methods in the Layout menu. Makes you think it doesn't exist.
Andy, I'm enjoying your questions as you make the transition from FM to ID; they make me a better ID trainer. Keep 'em coming.
But... sorry you're encountering some disappointments. I hear the same questions from other FM switchers. As others have posted, ID simply lacks many of the long document features of FM. We're all hoping some of them will make it into the next version of CS. Don't forget to post your comments to the Features Request thread.
Do you have Blatner & Kvern's book, Real World InDesign CS? They have as good an explanation of the long doc features (and workarounds) as you'll find anywhere. They laid out that book, and others, in ID, so know what they're talking about.

Re: ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
And what's wrong with using the Pages palette, eh. I keep mine open all the time on a second monitor. I have a business card file with each page designated A, B, C, from the Master pages. If I need to find Smith's business card, I click on the page with the big S in it.

Re: ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
IMO the pages pallette is also the way to go, but the default setup isn't so
useful.
Put the pages on top/masters on the bottom, small icons, and run them
horizontally. My pallette sits on a second monitor, so I'm a click away from
any spread or master.

Re: ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
Does anyone know the answer to the original question or is the Pages palette the only alternative? I too have searched the commands menus and Help for a Go to Page command. In answer to M. Blackburn, there are shortcomings to using the Pages palette. Even with small icons, in a large document the Pages palette can be time-consuming to navigate. Besides which, Jump to Page commands are fairly standard. It is not unreasonable to expect one.
BTW Adobe, if InDesign does not include any such command, this should be mentioned in Help along with the alternatives.

Re: ID CS: Jump to a specific page?
Joseph,
Click Show All Messages, and look at Message #2 where I answered your question.
You can manually highlight the number in the Pages field at the bottom of the document window, type a number and press Return (or type Ctrl-J, type a number, and press Return).
It is in the application.
