    Default ID CS to ID2

    Hello,

I've seen numerous times that ID CS cannot backsave to ID2. I really don't care because I don't have ID 2, but the help in ID CS says it can be done using the ID Interchange format. Here is what the help says.

"Saving documents for use with InDesign 2.0

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can export InDesign CS documents in InDesign Interchange format (.INX) for compatibility with InDesign 2.0. To open these documents in version 2.0, you'll need to obtain and install the Scripting plug-in and the XML Reader plug-in. You can obtain these plug-ins from the Adobe Web site.

To save a document in InDesign Interchange format:

    Choose File > Export.
For Save as Type, select InDesign Interchange.
    Click Save."

I don't find the scripting plugin on Adobe's website, but have you been able to do this? I thought this might help some people who would be interested in this.

And if you bothered to read the threads you'd also see that the readme
file overrules the help. Those ID 2.0 plugins don't exist. It can't be done.

I didn't look at the readme. I figured that the online help would be just as up-to-date.

The help is only "on-line" in the sense that you read it using your Web
browser. It is just a static set of HTML files on your computer.

FYI, the Online Help file (as well as the printed version in the manual, or the PDF version) are usually completed a couple months before product ships. The reason for this is that there has to be time for production, and for customizing for different language versions.

The ReadMe file is completed just before the CD is pressed so it's ALWAYS the most up-to-date.

On the other hand, the product has been out for getting on a year and there have been two updates and still the Help is wrong?

Actually, the PageMaker edition version fixed the problem (although it does leave you rather wondering what the blazes the interchange format is good for).
