ID CS: update issue
I can't get InDesign CS (Windows XP) to update. The autoupdate keeps telling me that there's an upgrade to version 3.0.1 available, and when I download it, it tells me the installation was successful, but when I launch it again, I get version 3.0, not 3.0.1. Tried using the manual updater and had the same results.
Any suggestions?

Re: ID CS: update issue
Maybe you are using CS beta version! Check it!
If it's alright, then reinstall it and check where it was unpacked!

Re: ID CS: update issue
Steven,
Are you sure you don't have the Beta version? Everyone else that has had this same problem was using a Beta version that they either aquired it from e-bay or some other unreliable source.
How do you know for sure that you don't have the beta?

Re: ID CS: update issue
Hmm. I ordered it from CDW (a reputable company) as part of the entire CS suite, and it came in all of the proper packaging with a valid serial number, and I didn't even order it until late April or early May, so it seems highly unlikely to me that what I have is a beta version.
Any ideas on how I could double-check?

Re: ID CS: update issue
If you ordered it that late, it seems to me you should already have 3.0.1.

Re: ID CS: update issue
Yeah, me too, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am assuming, of course, that Version 3.0.1 shows up as "3.0.1" in the "About" dialog, and that it wouldn't keep telling me the 3.0.1 auto update was available if I was at 3.0.1. Maybe these assumptions are all wet.
I'm intrigued by the possibility that maybe CDW somehow sent me a beta version. Is there any way to check?

Re: ID CS: update issue
Right here Boyan Mladenov "InDesign CD crashes constantly since 3.01 update installed" 5/11/04 1:36am </cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bb40910/4>
It should say Adobe InDesign Version: CS 3.0.1(460)
I think I read somewhere that you need to check this before installing the update though.

Re: ID CS: update issue
Right. That's what I figured. But all I get is "3.0"
Le sigh.

Re: ID CS: update issue
The 3.0.1 would be right on the title bar. It should say InDesign CS 3.0.1.
Did your version come with the Pagemaker plugins? If not, you should
call CDW. They're selling selling some seriously old stock.
But back to the failure to update. Did you check the version of the
InDesign.exe file? Do you know how do that?

Re: ID CS: update issue
All I get in the title bar is "Adobe InDesign CS"; there's no version number after it.
I'm not sure if it came with the Pagemaker plugins or not. I know that it opens PM docs just fine, but I did notice that in the keyboard shortcuts preferences, there are only "default" and "QuarkXPress 4.0" options; my understanding is that if the Pagemaker plugins are installed, there should be a "Pagemaker" shortcuts option, as well.
I do not know how to check the version of the InDesign.exe file. (Obviously, then, I haven't done so.)

Re: ID CS: update issue
In Windows Explorer, find the InDesign.exe file and right click on it.
Select properties and then the version tab.
I don't know if the PM plugins are on their own CD or part of the suite
installation. But I will maintain at this point that any copy of CS sold
in May should have included the 3.0.1 patch.
Call CDW and do some complaining.

Re: ID CS: update issue
Version shows as 3.0.0.424.
Beta or not?

Re: ID CS: update issue
IIRC, the beta was 404.
Have you tried simply downloading the updater and installing it in safe
mode?

Yup. Same result.

Re: ID CS: update issue
Try this.
Trash your prefs, uninstall ID, clean out anything remaining and then
reboot.
Reinstall ID and then immediately install the patch.
BTW, if the PM plugins weren't included you really need to call CDW.
You're entitled to those plugins but the free offer directly from Adobe
is over. They ended it when all the new stock was out on the shelves.

Re: ID CS: update issue
I actually uninstalled the entire CS suite about two weeks ago and reinstalled (all in safe mode) then applied the patch (also in safe mode) and got the exact same results.
I'm planning to call CDW the moment I find out the PM plug-ins aren't there. My question, though, is how do I know?

Re: ID CS: update issue
It's a separate installation. I don't know if it comes on a separate CD
or if it's part of the installer for the suite.

Plug-ins are on a separate CD and have to be installed separately. I hope
this clears up at least this one small part!
