IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
There is an updated version of the 3.0.1 update for IDCS. It's not yet on the Adobe web site for download, but can be downloaded via the Help menu in InDesign.
(I'm not sure why this isn't 3.0.2 or something, but it is called the "August 2004 update").

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
I find it amusing that the copy of InDesign used by someone at Adobe on
July 22, 2004, to create the ReadMe for this update has not itself been
updated to InDesign 3.0.1 at all, and is still 3.0.

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
The real problem is that this update doesn't change the version number.
I don't understand the reasoning for not calling it 3.0.2 or 3.0.1a.

Hold off on this one. It made one of my fonts display its roman set as bold italic, and I can't change it back.

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
I don't understand the reasoning for not calling it 3.0.2 or 3.0.1a.
I asked, they said it's too much trouble and it's just a decision they made.
I just spoke to someone at (206)675-6311 InDesign Support about a problem I've been having since Friday. I can't get the download for ALAP InBooklet SE and InDesign CS Scripting updates.
They told me it would be available Friday night. I checked this morning and nothing yet so that's why I called again. Now I have to wait until tomorrow or a few days.

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
My InBooklet quits and there's no fix available (not even the old fix). I'd recommend NOT using this patch if you use InBooklet. I was able to do a partial workaround by creating a PDF and doing some merging (I previously created a new document using InBooklet, then changed the centerfold in the imposed document.) This time I did two PDF's and merged, but it took about 15 tries.
I had to reload due to a computer problem and didn't realize there was a "new" 3.0.1 patch when I saw it downloaded. That's incredibly stupid to not change the verison number. That's about as simple a thing as you can do.

I was told by the person on the phone that the fix works sometimes - THAT'S encouraging! :D :P

Why, does it make matters worse?
That's incredibly stupid to not change the verison number.
I think a large number of us agree with that but that was the excuse I was given over the phone. *shrug* Don't know what to tell ya.
IMO, it's just as bad as the CS naming. I've seen users come around the forum asking when IDCS version 2 is coming out. It's not! It's going to be 4.0 or CS 4 or who knows what. The CS naming has a lot of new and old users all confused about the version numbers but supposedly it's not a problem because by the time they come out with v4 ID 2.0 will no longer exist or something like that. hehehehehe

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
"That's incredibly stupid to not change the verison number"
I can imagine the confusion at a company running many stand-alone licenses,
all patched up to 3.0.1, and then some patched up to 3.0.1 (August). How
will they know which is which, except by looking at the file dates in
Windows Explorer?
For what it's worth, I read through the PDF of fixes for the latest patch
and didn't know that any of those problems existed. But if previous patches
are any guide, whether or not this latest one does anything for you, it
could be necessary to install it to enable 3.0.2 to install.

What 3.0.2?
If Robert had not posted this I probably would not have even noticed that the 3.0.1 patch was new. I would have seen 3.0.1 and thought it's the same one I already have in my \Updates and Patches\Adobe\InDesign directory.

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
To find which version you have, hold down the Ctrl key while activating About InDesign from the Help menu (I believe that's where it is in Windows). The most recent build is number 814, the previous one was 460. The build number is in parens after the version number.

Re: IDCS 3.0.1 August Update
Oh, and another thing I noticed.
When you download the file, it's called ID301en.exe
I could be wrong but it looks to me like that means it's InDesign 3.0.1 English but what do you get when you fire up the install shield?

Sounds to me as if Adobe borrowed the key staff from the Quark technical and marketing braintrust to implement this "update."

Yeah, that was good. I saved it to my Favorites.
That's the first time I save a thread to the favorites. Will I still be able to access this months from now or will this get deleted after a while?
