IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
I wonder if anyone can help with the problem I;I'm having. II have an EPS file linked in my In Design layout and it is clearly corrupt. I want to delete it, but no matter what sneaky method I try to do this, it crashes the program every time. I can move the link around, group it with another shape, but I just cant get rid of it. The layout itself was imported from an original Quark layout (through many saving downs then saving up steps) and everything else seems to be working fine.
Any suggestions to get this crummy link out of my file?
thanks for your help, Debbie

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
What about doing some modification to that EPS so that it you would be marked as modified in the links palette? You could try to update it then and to delete it afterwards.
Another option: Create a new empty page, then go to the page with the corrupt link, select the whole page's contents except for the EPS image and copy/paste it to the new page, then try to delete the page with the bad link.
Good luck! :-)

export the the file as inx to clean up corruption.

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
Open PS, copy the image, open new blank PS doc, paste. Give this new file a different name. If the eps is an AI doc, save as a .ai file. If it's a PS file, save as a .tif or .psd file. Replace all instances of this image with the new one.
May also want to export the doc as .inx and reopen. I would do the above first though.
[edit] Hey Buko - butt out! I'm talking here.

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
First try to export the file to InDesign Interchange to see if that will repair the corruption.
If that doesn't work, I would recommend a variation on Klaus' suggestion - instead of copying all items except the problem EPS to a new page in the same document, copy them to a new page in a new document. Then delete the original document.
It sounds like no matter what you do in the original document, you may not be able to delete the problem EPS.

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
Then delete the original document.
Don't follow Tom's proposal up to this point if your document is a multi-page one, Debbie. ;-)

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
So I went through all your suggestions one by one. I tried to move everything but the corrupt link off the page and then delete the page (crash). Then I went to modify the file in PS, but the link was already marked as "modified"--it couldn't even update or relink without crashing. THEN I exported as an interchange file--didn't even know what that was--and voila, it deleted beautifully. So now I have this INX file, do I need to do/know anything special or just save as a regular file?
Many thanks for all your helps!
Debbie
p.s. Anyone know why it's all funky when I am typing in this forum.? I'm using Mozilla Firefox.

Debbie, using Firefox 1.5.0.6 here and see nothing abnormal. Could you please give more details?

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
It looks normal once I post, but right now when I am typing in this little box my message and I hit backspace/delete cause I've made a mistake, it doesn't really erase the character and then I can't really tell which character the cursor is on and, well, it's sort of off topic and to be honest, I've had the same problem when posting to Yahoo groups and on craigslist, so it must be something weird with Firefox and these input boxes, but I just thought if anyone knew exactly what I was talking about, they might also know if it's fixable.
BTW, I'm using 1.5.0.6

Re: IDCS--Can't get rid of corrupt link
Most likely a font issue.
What happens if you copy the image to another PS doc and replace the image in ID with the new one? Try this and report back. If you replace the image, trying to delete the link becomes moot.
Once you export to INX you can now reopen in ID. At this point, I think there's something corrupt with the image.

Debbie, you got me there, I have never had to delete them. I couldn't find mine either, so I performed a search for Firefox, and I think this is the file you want:
Users > (my login name) > Library > Preferences > org.mozilla.firefox.plist
