IDCS: Importing tagged text
I'm trying to import some text generated by a database. I have specified InDesign Tagged Text as my format. I have predefined the referenced styles in my template. Below is the text, from the very beginning of the file:
<ASCII WIN>
<pStyle:EqHeads>CRAWLER TRACTORS <pStyle:EqDesc><cStyle:EqDescBold>Cat
D9N, S/N 1JD03307, <cStyle:>c/w U/dozer, A/C cab, diff steer, 4 bbl SS
ripper. <pStyle:EqDesc><cStyle:EqDescBold>Cat D8K, S/N 77V15992, <cStyle:>c/w
SU/dozer w/tilt, cab, 2 bbl MS ripper.
But, it comes in just like that, with tags showing and no formatting applied.

Re: IDCS: Importing tagged text
I figured out part of it: Needed a hyphen in that opening line. <ASCII-WIN> instead of <ASCII WIN> and tags (pstyle and cstyle) need to be all lowercase.
But I still have problems.
That first paragraph, "CRAWLER TRACTORS" is coming in the right Pstyle, but the wrong font. The font I want is part of the paragraph style, so why is the font wrong?
Edit:
Supreme frustration: Even re-importing exported tagged text comes in with the wrong font. WTF?

Re: IDCS: Importing tagged text
More research:
Seems theres at least a couple of troubling errors in the Tagged Text PDF file shipping with InDesign. The tags "pStyle" and cStyle" use uppercase characters in the PDF reference, yet those tags are ignored unless they are entirely lowercase. How much hair has been lost becuase of this, I wonder?

Re: IDCS: Importing tagged text
Is anyone an expert on ID tags? I'm nowhere closer to figuring out what's going on here.

Re: IDCS: Importing tagged text
Are the styles properly applied to the text you're exporting in Posting #1? (That is, no "+" signs in the style palette).
If you import that text into a blank document (that does not have the styles pre-defined) does the font still come out wrong?

Re: IDCS: Importing tagged text
There was NO local formatting applied to the text before export. I made sure to select No Character and No Paragraph styles, then apply the paragraph style before export.
I stripped the definition from the exported file, since I don't want that in my DB generated text.
But now it's working fine. Maybe it just needed the weekend to recharge -- I know I did.
