IDCS: paragraph styles

I created a new paragraph style from selected text. When I aply the paragraph style, the text changes to a different font and size. The font and size are correct in the style definition (Frutiger 67 Condensed Bold, 23 pt.), and are not part of any other style definition in the file (Arial 12).

So where is this font and size information coming from, and how do I tell InDesign to use the formatting in the style? This makes absolutely no sense.

Anytime you have mysterious outcomes like this, you probably also have a character style riding on the same text ... and possibly local formatting on it too. Remove the character style off the text, and then apply the style. Alt apply the style to remove local formatting; alt shift apply the style to blow off character styles, too. Makes you want to pay more attention to the word doc that brought all the trash in, doesn't it?

Yes, that was it. The text was "Normal" and I deleted the paragraph style but not the character style.

It's just like Vincent said, "It's the differences."
