Default IDCS v 3 Tables and Text Alignment

I've seemly read eveything, and tried many things to get my text in a table with variable cell sizes to simply align in the Center from top to bottom, and from left to right.

Left to right seems to be working, but the text alignment from top to bottom, looks just wrong. It seems to act like its trying to follow some Leading setting, as you move down the cells, and not aligning itself within the cell.

    Solution?

    Bill,

Weren't you in the movie Muppet Treasure Island?

Anyway, look at your Table palette. There are vertical alignment buttons. Don't forget the inset amounts might be pushing it off center. See that they are set to 0 or at least an equal amount.

Might have been ... I lived in DC for way too long ...

I'll recheck the insets and such ... set them all to zero awhile ago. I'm off to the Table Palette again ... really need to be rehearsing my jazz piano and flugelhorn ... or planning my next painting ...

Part of the solution is to have the cell height a certain amount relative to the text size (seems obvious).

But now it only works with text at the bottom of the cell ... aligning it vertically in the middle, causes it to jump to the top. Taller cells might be the solution, except they won't all fit on a single page. Smaller text didn't seem to work ... down to size 6.

Oh well, even though I'm not a bottom man, sometimes the bottom will do.

No ... I'm not just talking to myself ... someone in WDC must have removed his response:

    Bill,
have you got baseline grid active for your text?
That could explain its jumping to the top.

Bill - that response is still there what I can see and not removed. Just moved to a previous page. Use arrows to go back to previous page.

Apologies to the DC Relative ... my mistake. Any way to delete my comment?

The baseline grid idea with Object > Text Frame Options ... > Vertical Adjustment (Bottom) thing seems to do the trick.

    Thanks.

    Bill,

I could try to fix it but the result might be even more confusing that just leaving the sequence of messages there.
