    Default IDCS2 gradually slowing down...

I love ID but have noticed that it is the one application that makes my G5 (Dual 2.5, 10.4.7) feel a touch sticky.

By that I mean it takes a lonnnggg time to boot up ID (must be about two minutes) and closing down is sluggish too. I generally work on magazine and annual report documents that I think are reasonably modest - typically about four (but up to 36 pages), roughly two or three pictures per page so nothing too drastic. Other apps such as Photoshop and Safari zip along without much bother so I don't think it is a problem with the OSX or G5 per se.

Wondering if there is an ID prefs file that I should ditch to return to faster times (could that help?), or would that take with it all my shortcut, viewing, kerning etc prefs?

As I say, it's not so bad, just feels a bit sluggish which is disappointing. Any thoughts anyone?

I would start running maintenance routines on your system like cleaning font caches, making sure you run the cron scripts, clean out all old logs.

Cocktail can do this for you, then run Diskwarrior to fix your directory.

Also deactivate all fonts except those that you need now. I never have more than 50 or 60 fonts active at any one time.
