    Default IDCS2 shuts downs automatically

I was working with indesign CS2 (MAC OS X 10.4.7) when i got the following message: "Adobe Indesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart Indesign to recover work in any unsaved Indesign documents."
When i restarted indesign i coundn't do anything with it because it always gave me the message above. When i decide not to recover the document that i was working on, the "welcome" screen of indesign appears, letting me choose between creating a new document, new from template or just opening. Each of the options have the result of shutting down indesign followed by the message above.
I've tried almost everything i can remember of: reeinstall the application, update it to 4.0.2, delete the preferences file, but i've run out of options.
    Please, help me!!!

When you said you deleted preferences, just what did you delete? The plist file is not relevant if that's what you deleted. Rather, go to ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Verseion 4.0/ and delete the files:

    InDesign Defaults
    InDesign SavedData

    and the folder:

    InDesign Recovery

    Pedro,

Did this work for you? So far it has for me. I just upgraded to 10.4.7 3 days ago with a clean install. Some of my documents seemed to then corrupt upon opening. I would get the "Could not complete your request because file XXXX is damaged. Error Code 3, then the "Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents."

Also, I no longer have previews of the ID documents even though "Save Preview" is selected. Anybody know what's causing that?

I have been having this same problem and in a discussion with tech support today, I was told that I have a built-in problem. I originally purchased Adobe Creative Suite CS1 last year and then downloaded the upgrade to InDesign CS2 only in February. It installed just fine and worked for a month or so and then started messing up on occasion. When it quit working all together today, tech support was first surprised it even worked at all....saying "you can't do that". Apparently, the only repair to my situation with InDesign CS2 is to buy the entire CS2 creative suite (and the CS2 InDesign upgrade again)

    Default IDCS2 shuts downs automatically

Similar thing happened to me, the old file I wanted would open but be stuck on the page it open on- any attempt to move or change anything [inc save as] led to a crash.

However, the file let me open the 'links' tab where I relinked everything- then it would let me 'go to' images on each page where I could copy all the images and 'paste in place' in a new document.

Massively long winded way of doing it- but couldnt find anything else that work!!

[ps. It wouldn't let me scroll or use the 'pages' tab- It would then crash and say 'error 3- seriour error detected etc etc']
