If I am not mistaken, Informix was (and is still?) developed on
SPARC/Solaris, meaning everything else is a port and subject to errors
inherent in every porting task. No glaring errors mind you, just little
issues that indicate the product just works better on the platform for
which it was originally developed. The same holds true for Oracle.
Anyone heard if the Informix developers are getting shiny new IBM
p-series S80's to play with?

Subject: IDS 9.x stability on Solaris vs Linux
We are currently running IDS 9.3/IDS 9.4 on Solaris 8 with pleasurable
stability. We are considering moving to Linux for cost savings. IBM
support tells me that IDS is supported on Linux 2.4, glibc 2.2.x. Would
someone care to comment on the relative stability of IDS on Solaris vs.
Linux? Should we go for Redhat Linux (7.3, 9, enterprise) or some other
Linux? Thanks! Rajesh
