Default IE XHTML Processing Problems

Small problem. When i view my site locally it loads perfectly in both internet
exploer and firefox. However when i upload the site to my webspace once again
it loads perfectly but when viewed in internet explorer, it looks like the
browsers doesnt process the xhtml code, as it all shows up in the body window
of the browser.

does anyone know why this might be?

the url for the site is;

http://www.cet.sunderland.ac.uk/~aa2bge/siteFiles/portfolio.htm

any comments welcome.

thanks

Ok i managed to make a quick fix for this, however its not a good one but it
works for now untill i figure out how to sort it properly. I just deleted the
<xml ..........> out of the top line. The site is no longer hosted at the
address given in the first post.
