Ill 9 coverts cmyk to rgb on eps save. Deadlines are tumbling!

Any idea why Illustrator 9 would save my cmyk files as rgb when I save them as eps files? Is it something to do with pdf settings somewhere? I've tried dumping all preferences and restarting illustrator, and that works on any new files, but my recently 'corrupted' files are opened as rgb, and everything then saves as rgb unless I dump the prefs..and so on! I don't have time to rebuild the files from scratch. This has never happened in the (how many?) years I've been using Ill9.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just out of curiosity, have you ticked 'cmyk postscript' when doing a 'save as'??

I know this enables you to print CMYK when you may have used spot colours in the job and as far as I know should work for RGB colours too.

Just to clarify, when you say your files are cmyk you mean not only the colors in the palette are cmyk colors, but the document color mode is set to cmyk under the file menu, correct?

Tell me about it! Got the same problem! Was told to save a new document to desktop as a .ai file and then save your current doc again and should work - hasn't so far, and more suggestions?

Hooray, I think I've fixed the problem. Save a new document to the desktop using file, save as, pdf , Acrobat 4. Then do a new page and save to the desktop as .ai. Dump both and save your RGB file in CMYK mode (under file, Document colour mode) and the next time you open it, it should have maintained its CMYK. This does however mean you'll have to check the colours, as it will do odd things to the values having been converted.
But thats the fix away!
