Illustrator 10.0.3 shuts down when starting up on OS 10.3.3

I have cleaned out the old files and re installed - but to no avail. Does anyone know what I may not be doing - is it possible that a hidden file is still on my machine and I am not replacing it when doing a fresh install?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Has it ever ran on that computer before? If so remember to remove Adobefnt.lst files (not the Adobefnt.db file)and trash AI preferences.

Are you repairing permissions after installs? Are you running Norton Antivirus? When exactly is it crashing? It might be the Adobe Online pluggin if it's trying to update files.

Firstly I am not a tech head - just a designer that uses Macs!

Yes it has run on the computer before.
I will try removing the Adobefnt.lst files and trash the AI prefs DO I REMOVE ALL OF SUCH FILES FROM OTHER PROGRAMS THAT HAVE ADOBE>FNTLIST FILES TOO?

I am not repairing permissions after installs - I don't get asked to and don't really know what they are.
I have no Nortons Antivirus running.
You are right - It tries to update online (I'm on BBand) and then crashes half way through.

Yes, you can trash all adobefnt.lst files. They will rebuild when the programs are opened. After that you should trash preferences as well.

Move the Adobe Online pluggin from the AI folder/Extensions to your desktop for now to see if it's the problem.

Repairing permissions is done in Disk First Aid. Go to Your Appications folder>Utilities and double click Disk Utility. Select the First Aid tab, choose your main drive then select "Repair Disk Permissions" and let it run it's course. You really should do that after all updates and installs.

It was the Adobe Online pluggin - I have trashed it and will just update from the website in the future. Do you use it?

I have also trashed the Adobe.fnt.lst for good measure and am repairing permissions.

Looking good so far - I'll see what happens after it has repaired.

I'm glad you got it working, Peter.

I use it for the Help menue, but I'm also still running OS9.2.2 so I don't have a problem with it. But many OSX users here have a problem with it.
