    Default Illustrator 10.0.3 PDF error

I am currently running OS 10.2.8 and I have been struggling with an error message that pdf is having difficulties saving when I attempt to save an ai. file or an .eps file. I find if I quit then restart the application, half way through loading the application again it comes up with the same error message about 5 times over. I think it was error number -37. This is happen on both our G4's in the office and the only way to temporarily fix the problem is to save to an external hard drive as an eps and restart the whole computer. Is there a fix or a patch I can get to eliminate this problem or some way you could help me understand this problem?
