Illustrator 10.03 hangs on starting

Using OS 10.28 on a G4, 533 MHz dual processor with 1280 MB memory. Illustrator just hangs on starting it. The rainbow colored beach ball just spins and I have to force quit the program during start up. I have trashed all the elements of the program as directed on the support site, removed fonts as directed, re-installed the program twice...still it hangs. Can anyone help?

Did you remove the Adobe Online plugin from the Illustrator Extensions folder as well?

And you don't have Norton Anti Virus do you or Spell Catcher?

I just tried removing the online plug-in and it didn't remedy the situation. I have no Norton's Anti Virus installed or Spell Catcher.

It seemed to happen after I did the software update from Apple the security patch from 4/03/04 and the latest Quicktime. I called Apple tech help and they claim it is not their problem but Adobe's. All other Adobe apps are running fine.

On start-up the program hangs at reading fonts. I removed all the fonts and still I had the same problem. I restarted the computer from OS9.2 and the same program opened and worked there.

Thanks for your input. Anyone else have a solution? Next step is wiping the hard drive and reinstalling everything...something I don't want to do.

I saw the other thread that is similar called Illustrator crashes on start-up and have tried those suggestions.

Would you tell me how to repair my permissions?

Ok I repaired the permissions, but Illustrator still hangs on reading fonts at start-up. Are there any other solutions?

Trash Illustrator preferences and the plugin cache. Then try restarting Illustrator.

There is nothing in the preferences folder since the program never started after the 2nd re-installation. There is no plug-in cache for Illustrator 10.0.3 on OS 10.2.8 system but there is one for the OS 9.2.2 system.
Have we exhausted the solutions?

Did you try deleting the Adobefnt.lst files? (Not the Adobefnt.db)

Did you also try creating a new user with administrative priveleges?

Turn off fonts to see if any are corrupt?

Try uninstalling the Quicktime you just put on?

I did all but creating a new user and uninstalling Quicktime. I'll give it a whirl.

Creating a new user worked!! So now that we know the problem can I fix the original user?

I'm not on OSX yet so I'm not sure. I'm thinking that I read that you just replace the old one with the new one. But you better do some searching on that topic.
