Illustrator 10 and 11 saving files creates an AI Temp file

Using a G5 2GHZ DP with 2.5GB RAM.

When saving a file it is creating a AI Temp(with filename). It will not let me delete these files as it says they are in use. These are being saved locally and on a network share. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of these or prevent these from being created. I've looked in preferences of Ill. but didn't see anything.

Answer would be nice, because this behavior is anoying.

Using Norton AntiVirus's AutoProtect feature by any chance?

Do yourself a favor and uninstall AV and run it from a separate volume or from the CD. AutoProtect is ridiculous overkill especially on a Mac! Heck, I've gotten Mac viruses in the past yet I still say that. IMO, it's simply not worth the hassle.

I don't have Norton AntiVirus, but I get those temp files, too. I can usually delete them the next day, but that they are generated at all is annoying (and unpredictable).

If anyone knows how to prevent them, that would be great!
