Illustrator 10 - Crash when embedding an EPS

Hello folks,

We have quite a few users here who have been complaining that they're unable to embed an EPS file in Illustrator. They can place the files without a problem, but when they try to embed it via the Links pallette, nothing happens the first time and the second time Illustrator 10 crashes. All the users are on G5s, with a mix of 10.2.8(G5) and Panther.
At first I thought it could be the use of AI8 files, but it happens with newly-created files as well. I've verified it with many EPS and AI files... So far I've trashed preferences and removed AdobeFNT files, but those steps have had no effect.
Any suggestions on what to do?

Sounds similar to another topic "Placing EPS or images in AI." Cancelling a placed image cause program to quit.

Do you have Norton AntiVirus installed with the "AutoProtect" feature enabled by any chance?

I'm not at work right now, but when NAV actually is on our default installation -- I'm going to check that out when I get back to the office on Monday. Thanks for the tip!

I'm using a G5 with OS 10.3.3 and Illustrator 10.03 and whenever I copy with the intention to paste into photoshop Illustrator unexpectedly quits and if I hav'nt saved I loose everything! Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone have a fix?
