Illustrator 10 freeze upon launching

I have Illustrator 10 and just recently switched from OS 9 to Panther.
Illustrator was opening fine until the last two days. Now when I try to launch the program it comes to the "update online components" window and when I try to hit cancel the dreaded color wheel pops up, nothing happens and eventually the program freezes and won't start. I had the same issue in system 9 but was able to hit cancel and as long as I did that it would launch...
I know everyone is saying to upgrade to CS, but I don't have the income to purchase new software every other day. I need to feed the children.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Is there something I can turn off in preferences? And if so how can I get the program to launch even once so I can access the preferences?

Oops sorry, I looked farther back in the forum and found the answer to my problems. It worked.

Someone just saved me a $39. tech support call, Yeah!
