Illustrator 10 isn't recognizing fonts that I've dropped in the Fonts folder - Adobe Illustrator Macintosh

I'm confused about why my Illustrator 10 (running on OS 10) is only recognizing a subset of the fonts I have loaded into my Library/Fonts folder. Can someone please explain which fonts are compatible with Illustrator? Why is it only recognizing some fonts? And by the way, what happened to the font system with suitcases and postscript printer fonts? Can I pass off just one font file now, even when delivering to people using OS 9? Are the suitcases gone forever?...

    Hi Ginny,

I think folks here might need some more information before they can help you.

Can you give a specific example of a "subset" of fonts that is/isn't recognized, with names of the fonts and the manufacturer?

Are the fonts being recognized by other applications? If so, which ones?

What format are the fonts: Type 1, TrueType, OpenType?

In your second paragraph, I assume you are referring to Type 1 fonts, which include both printer fonts and suitcases containing bitmap font files. If so, this "font system" still functions just as it used to, even in OS X. The only difference is that the file icons displayed by OS X are different than those displayed by OS 9, and you no longer can open the Suitcase files.

Hmmm...if you are using Type 1 fonts, but are missing your Suitcase files, that might explain why some fonts aren't being recognized as installed.

    Hope this helps,

    Lance
