Default Illustrator 10 wont load on Win XP

This has probably been asked and answered before so please excuse the repeat, but I have a Dell here and it was running Win 2000 with all the software on it, including said Illustrator, then I upgraded the OS and ever since then I haven't been able to load Illustrator. I have the same software loaded on other computers here (at work) and haven't had any problems with them, but for some reason, this is the only one that's having the issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator a couple times, and still can't get it to load. Basically what it does is it starts to go through the initialization and then crash and disappear.

Oddly enough, this is the only software that I'm having problems with on here.

    THANKS! in advanced. :)

    Amy,
    >>then I upgraded the OS <<
Despite what Microsoft may say, XP needs installing to its own new folder,
preferably on a freshly formatted partition, and then all applications,
    drivers etc. re-installing.

Upgrading over-the-top of an existing O/S WILL guarantee you get problems,
not always immediately, but somewhere down the line.

You can try do an uninstall/reinstall of Illustrator and deleting the
aiprefs file as per the instructions in the FAQ at the top of this forum's
Topic List, but I really would recommend a clean install of XP.

You can use an XP upgrade disk to perform a clean install, Amy.

You will be asked for your Win2k CD during the install to check that you qualify.

Ah thanks didn't know that, since I'm not the one that's done the OS installs/upgrades anywhere. :) But since we were having network issues yesterday I didn't get a chance to post that I tired the first route and that worked. I hadn't even thought about checking for hidden files. *sigh* Yeah it's the easy things that you sometimes don't think about and then want to bang your head against something after asking and seeing it's the one thing you didn't think about.
