Illustrator 11 CS saving

Recently I no longer can save my illustrator files as (.ai) files. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

No need to post more than once - I have 'merged' the content of your duplicate into this, your original, Topic.

Have you tried deleting the preference file? Details in the FAQ at the top of this forum's Topic List.

Thanks for the information. I just deleted the preference file and ill. CS still won't save files in (.ai) format.

Any other suggestions?

Do you have any non-english characters in your file or folder names? What
error message are you getting? Is it the " Adobe PDF is having difficulties"
message?

I don't have any non-english characters in the file or folder names. Even if I open a new application and try to save it in (.ai) the error message "an unknown error has occurred" pops up. Files that I could save before as (.ai), no longer allow it and the error message pops up. I switched to the new CS about a month ago and it is just recently that this problem has occurred. I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail. The only format I can save in is .eps and that is taking up quite a bit of space.

I'm basically at a loss.

All your help is greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem but for me I cannot save my work as a pdf file. They open as blank. I am hoping that a solution to your problem may give me some insight into the problem I am experiencing.

BTW, my adobe acrobat 5 saves fine from my illustrator 10, just not CS. Also it used to save fine from CS but just stopped suddenly.

At this point I would do a complete uninstall/re-install, deleting the whole
of the Illustrator CS folder tree and the \Documents and
Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS Settings
folder tree before the re-install

I just deleted that whole "\Documents and
Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS Settings" folder, then ran illustrator without reinstalling anything and it all worked again for me. Thanks LenHewitt
