Illustrator 7.0 from Corel - Cropping graphics

I'm a new user; well-versed with Corel 8.0 but I need to use Illustrator for a project. I own version 7.0 and my question is this:

In Corel, you can further crop a graphic or photograph even after it's been imported into your artwork. I cannot figure out how to do this in Illutrator. Is it possible?

Yes. Make a mask (called a clipping mask in later versions of Illustrator).

Draw a rectangle on top of the placed image. Use the free transform tool to position and size it as desired.

Then select both the image and the rectangle and make a mask (Object | Masks | Make or hit Ctrl+7).

It doesn't matter whether the mask rectangle has a fill. Any stroke, however, will appear as a border around your image.

The mask can be edited (shape, size, position) at will.
