illustrator 8.0 (old) change settings
Hello everyone:
I am using Illustrator 8.0, don't have the money to buy a new version. My question is with-in the program. Can you set the settings to show the boxes you want, and hide the ones you don't want to see at start-up? And also make it so it remembers if you drag a tab into another box, it remembers that for next time you start the program?
Any help would be great!

illustrator 8.0 (old) change settings
Brock,
Many preferences are stored with the Startup.ai file in your plugins folder.
Open a new document, make the changes you want and then save the document as
startup.ai in the plugin folder. (Better make a copy of the existing one
first in case you need to restore it)

Hello :LenHewitt - 01:23am Jun 16, 2004 Pacific (#1 of 1)
I tried what you said and nothing worked, maybe you didn't give me all the steps. Someone here at the office told me maybe I need to change something in settings, what do you think LenHewitt?

Re: illustrator 8.0 (old) change settings
Brock,
Palette locations and nestings should be retained from session to session.
I would try deleting the existing aiprefs file, which should be in your root Illustrator install folder. Illustrator will create a new one the next time you start it up. Palettes, etc., will be restored to factory defaults, so rearrange them to your liking.
Exit then restart Illustrator. If the palettes are not where you put them, there is something very wrong. You might have to reinstall the program.
Once you have things working, save a copy of aiprefs somewhere just in case. You can copy it back to the IL folder should you need to restore your settings.
Make sure you update to 8.0.1.
