Illustrator and multi-page - Macromedia Freehand

Personally, I think that Adobe coveted Freehand?s multi-page feature all these years. It?s just that maybe FH?s multi-page was protected and that Adobe didn?t want to do multi-page like a word processor, or Quark Express because it would make Illustrator too much like a page lay-out program. They wouldn?t want to do it like Corel Draw, which s because the pages are stacked in layers on top of each other. Default Illustrator and multi-page

Personally, I think that Adobe coveted Freehand?s multi-page feature all these
years. It?s just that maybe FH?s multi-page was protected and that Adobe didn?t
want to do multi-page like a word processor, or Quark Express because it would
make Illustrator too much like a page lay-out program. They wouldn?t want to do
it like Corel Draw, which s because the pages are stacked in layers on top
of each other. The best way to do it for a drawing program is Freehand?s way
and Adobe couldn?t copy it. Since Illustrator used a single page only system
this led AI only users to believe that single page was vastly superior and
vigorously defended it against anyone proposing multi-page for AI. I?ve read
somewhere that AI is going to support multi-page in its next incarnation after
CS2. Now they?ve got it with the acquisition of Freehand. I can see Adobe
Illustrator with multi-page just like Freehand and also other great features FH
has that Illustrator doesn?t have it?s going to one hell of an awesome drawing
    program.

But I?m still crossing my fingers that Apple will somehow get its hands on
Freehand. I don?t want to wake up from a good night?s sleep to find out that MS
    or Corel has acquired Freehand.

As far as my understanding goes AI used to use EPS as its native file
format and that doesn't allow for more than a single page.

I don't know if that has changed in recent versions.

Martin Illustrator is PDF since version 9. That means Illustrator CS2 is fourth version with AI Files as PDF.
