Default Illustrator between Mac and PC...

I regularly send artwork made in Illustrator via email to suppliers in China. All of our artwork is made on a Mac and most of the suppliers use PC's. As far as I know they should have no problems opening an Illustrator file created on a Mac with a PC, but they complain that they can't open the artwork all the time. I am using Illustrator CS on a G5 running OSX 10.3.2. and I export the artwork down to Illustrator 10 before sending.

Does anybody know of any cross platform compatability issues with Illustrator CS? This problem has been popping up more and more since we upgraded from 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

Be sure you are converting your text to paths, and that you ZIP the files before sending. Perhaps you could save a version 8 file as well, just as a backup. Illustrator 8 files are more universally welcome, since there are no transparency or raster effects to complicate the file. Becuase you are so far away from the printer, and there are significant time and langauage differences to contend with, any effort toward simplification will likely be rewarded.

All of the text is converted to paths as we don't want to mess with sending fonts. I wasn't aware that sending the files zipped would help, thanks for the advice. As for sending a version 8 file I'm hesitant to do so as we regularly produce artwork that includes transparency.

    Thanks again,

    Any more tips?

zipping tends to prevent the files from becoming corrupted on the way over.

the other thing to do is to output press-ready PDF files,, which should be WYSIWYG..

So apart from zipping to avoid corruption when emailing there should be no real compatability issues between Mac and PC where Illustrator is concerned?

    Thanks for all the help...
