Default Illustrator crashes when cancelling Place command

I have a G5 running 10.3.3 and Illustrator 10.0.3. Illustrator crashes every time that I try to place a pixel image on a page but change my mind and try to cancel the Place operation. I have deleted prefs, re-installed Illustrator, and examined the crash log. Nothing has helped, and the crash log doesn't have any useful information in it. Has anyone seen this and fixed it, or have any ideas?

    Is it an .eps?

Try it as a .tiff file.

Thanks Dee, but I never actually place an image, I cancel the Place operation without choosing a file and Illustrator crashes.

Oh, well you have a conflict of some kind with a third party application or plug in.

A corrupt font or a privilege or permission problem.

Do you have Spell Catcher and if so have you updated it as you should. I understand in the last several updates it works real well.

There's a discussion on macintouch.com about this issue. It appears that this only effects dual-processor machines. Is this true for you?

Yes, it is. I will check the Macintouch topic and post any useful information here as well. Thanks!

ImJeffP, can you post a link to the information on Macintouch? I was unable to find anything specifically mentioning this problem.

The discussion starts with the last item here <http://www.macintouch.com/panreader28.html#apr13>.

There's no solution yet (that I've seen), just a confirmation of the problem, and a request for a test involving disabling one of the processors.
