Illustrator cs, able to open AutoCAD DWG files?

Are folks experiencing any problems opening and manipulating AutoCAD DWG files. Are there certain versions of AutoCAD Illustrator does and does not support? Is there a trick to saving the AutoCAD files in a certain format?

If this has been discussed and explained I apologize, and could you direct me to the thread?
I've got a flat panel Imac, sys 10.3.

Robin I can open most AutoCAD files though I have had a difficulty opening AutoCAD 2004 and 2004 LT.

File open or file place will do. Of course 3D views have to come in as EPS files but they will also be editable.

Robin, Illustrator CS is a bit more sensitive than previous versions of Illustrator when it comes to opening AutoCAD files. It seems that older versions of Illustrator were more lenient when it came to opening files that were missing certain parameters. In AICS, if all of the AutoCAD parameters are not in the file, Illustrator won't open the file.
