Illustrator CS and installing Illustrator 10 on the same Machine

Hi its me again,

We are having an extremely wonderful time with our transition into CS. We have started purchasing older licenses of Illustrator 10 so that we have a tool that works (sort of) in X that can save down to 8.

However, I installed Illustrator 10 on a system that has CS, and the production artist told me that now he is having all sorts of issues with CS where he didn't have them before. Illustrator is now unexpectedly quits more than ever.

Questions:

1) Should we reinstall the CS suite again, so that if 10 replaced components that they would be overwritten with the updated ones?

2) You think this is a permissions issue? Have him fix permissions and run Cache Cleaner?

3) Run the utility that gets rid of all the adobefnt what ever files that cause so many problems with 10 and see if this helps¿

Any other suggestions that you can make to my this life of transition easier would be nice.

Repairing permissions is a good idea. I run both CS and 10 on both my main computers all the time with no problems. But I installed CS with 10 already loaded, not the other way around. You might try that - delete both copies, then reinstall, first 10 then CS.

I will try doing that. But reinstalling isn't that easy. I have the entire suite which then I have to install again, unless there is an option to just install the Illustrator part again.

You can install just the Illustrator element from the suite.

Hmmm... my suggestion would be to first install AI10 and THEN install AICS -- reason being there might be some shared libraries that will be overwritten -- and you want the newer ones, not the older ones.
