Default Illustrator CS EPS converted shows crops

As I understand it, Illustrator's "page" is just an arbitrary rectangle, unless you make crop marks (Object ->Crop Area -> Make). So I did that, saved as EPS, and Distileld the file using Distiller 6.0. Crop marks appeared in the PDF. I have never seen that before. The same file exported as a version 8 eps distils fine without the crop marks appearing, and the correct page size.

Illustrator page when you save as EPS is not really arbitrary - it is determined by the bounding box of the artwork (actually the paths - if you have some kind of stroke that goes outside the path, it will be cut off).

I see the same behavior you see when using the Illustrator eps file with crop marks.

There seems to be 3 "solutions":
    - release the cropmarks, which will change the crop rectangle to a no-fill, no-stroke rectangle.
    or
    - don't do cropmarks, just create a no-fill, no-stroke rectangle to define the area of your artwork.
    or
    - the one you already know, save to a previous version EPS

Illustrator page when you save as EPS is not really arbitrary.

Perhaps I should have said "Document Size". Tha artwork does define the bounding box. The Documen Size defines...nothing.
