Illustrator CS gives strange icons to files

When I save a file in Illustrator CS, a nice miniature version of that file is displayed as its icon. But when I restart the computer I find the icon has changed to a totally unrelated one randomly chosen from the Windows XP's icons.

By the way, this does not happen to any of my files saved from other programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Word etc. so I assume this has something to do with Illustrator.

Has this happened to anyone else? Feedback requested.

Yes. The program icons aren't all that sticky in Illustrator CS for some reason. At least not on my XP system. I still haven't found the solution to that yet, but believe it's something that has to be done in Windows.

I have seen this behavior in XP when the icon cache gets corrupted. Try using the TweakUI <http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp> tool from Microsoft to rebuild the icon cache. It's under Repair/Rebuild Icons.
