Illustrator CS windows crash when moving text
I've seen this happen on 2 different machines. I'm working in a drawing, selecting 1 or more text objects, and moving them using the arrow keys and Illustrator crashes.
One machine is Windows XP Pro, 256 MB RAM, plenty of HD space, Illustrator CS part of Creative suite standard.
The other machine is Windows 2000, 512 MB RAM, plenty of HD space, Illustrator CS part of Creative Suite Standard.
The machines have different video cards/drivers, and were working on different files.
Similarities - all crashes occured while working on files converted from Autocad DWG format. These are fairly small files with many layers. DWG files is less than 100k, while finished illustrator file is tyipically around 400k. Text was all changed to Helvetica (Type 1 format) Crashes occured after having worked with one or more similar files with no problem for about an hour. Crash does not happen in the first few minutes doing similar tasks.
ATM is not installed. Font rendering is done by Windows.
Tried rebooting and running only Illustrator, but still got the crash after working a while.
Anyone see behavior like this? ideas how to prevent? Need more info?
TIA
Roy.

Re: Illustrator CS windows crash when moving text
Hi, Roy.
Have you seen a similar behavior with different fonts? Also, what about the Appearance stack of these text objects: is there anything in there?

Re: Illustrator CS windows crash when moving text
Roy,
Sounds like a resource problem. Too many fonts, not enough resources due to computer operations, working over a network, no recent system defrag, etc.

Re: Illustrator CS windows crash when moving text
Roy,
It'a a known bug in Illustrator CS regarding GDI objects leakage. Problem is in ADM.aip (Adobe Dialog Manager) file and affects only machines not running English-locale windows.
It actually doesn't matter what you do, as soon as (or after a few minutes) you begin to use text the machine gets screen corruption and acts like crazy.
Patch for this exists (it is not Adobe's, but works), it is very small and if you wish to get it either search the forum a little deeper (all topics regarded to CS crash - I found the link to the patch that way) or send me an e-mail to wizardinho@yahoo.com.
Cheers.
