Re: Illustrator ctrl+z stops working as UNDO and changes the view instead!
This is fairly simple one, although not very obvious. What happened first was that you switched your keyboard layout accidentaly from QWERTY to QWERTZ or vice-versa (combination of alt+shift does that in Windows XP - and you most probably did that in Illustrator, because those two keys are often used in some kind of combination). That way, ctrl+z combination turned simply into a ctrl+y combination, which of course is used in Illustrator for switching on outline preview.
Solution: simply turn off alt+shift keyboard shortcut in control panel/keyboard options.

Now that's one I've not seen before. Thanks inho. I'm surprised more of us haven't had that happen before. Control Z is a very popular keystroke command (especially for me).

It's a keyboard language things, alt+shift change your keyboard to another keyboard langyage (qwerty to azerty or azerty to qwerty).
While using illustrator or photoshop, it happens quite often we push this hotkey.
You can disable this by going to start>control pannel>regional language.
Sorry for language mistakes, french user here.Kef Guest

Re: Illustrator ctrl+z stops working as UNDO and changes the view instead!
Thank you for this - very helpful indeed.
The user had German as their alternative input locale, which of course switches "Y" with "Z". It is easy to accidentally switch because a Illustrator often uses alt+shift; one accidentally click out of Illustrator window and the switch occurs, in this case with no notifications.Unregistered Guest
