Are you printing to a postscript printer? If not, I believe what you see printed is the low rez preview.

Are you ever print this page? Or we are talking just about a preview in Quark. If you want to see placed images and illustrations in quark in better views try InDesign.

When you import an EPS into Quark (or even a TIFF for that matter), a low-res placeholder image is used on-screen.

When you print to a Postscript printer, it just vomits the EPS data along to the printer which rasterizes it at whatever DPI your printer can do/whatever your driver is set to, and prints it out.

If however you print to an inkjet for instance or some other non-postscript-capable printer, that crappy placeholder is what gets sent along to the printer.
