Illustrator into Freehand?!

    Default Illustrator into Freehand?!

    Hi,
How can I import or bring in an Illustrator document into Freehand?
Also, it must be perfectly "preserved"...no changing colour or losing
    gradients.

I find copying & pasting works well, but only for simple line art and/or text.
Still, I find myself having to re-assign the colour often times in order for
it to show up when going to print.

When I import an .EPS created from Illustrator, it appears completely
    bitmapped.

Surely, there must be a way?! Please help; I thought .EPS was universal for
    every vector package.

    Thanks!

Christine, what version of Illy and what versionof FH. What platform.

Is this an EPS or a .AI document.

Freehand can not interpret an EPS, it is merely placed. What you are seeing
is a low res preview of the EPS. The EPS should print correctly to a
    Postscript printer.

If you want to import an .AI document it is best to save as illustrator
version 7 or 8. Gradients and clipping paths do not convert too well. It is
best to rebuild these in FH. Colors defined as CMYK should come across
intact as long as your AI document was setup as a CMYK document.

    Hi Christine,
Excuse me, but I don't know English language very well.

You will find exporting the original Illustrator document into a previous
    version of Illustrator 7.0 document.
After this you can import this document in FreeHand.

Thank you. I got it to open properly in Freehand. It looks as if it printed to
match the color but why is it that when I click on elements it is not recalling
the color name itself? It is blank and I am using only 2 Pantone colors.
Unfortunately, it looks like it's also removed all transparencies. Is there
any way around this besides printing as a .TIFF?

    Thanks,

    Christine

It should be easy to replace the missing colors by loading them again from
FH's Pantone color lists and using teh Find and replace color and also to
    rebuild the transparencies.
