    Default Illustrator Opacity Mask Into ID

    I have a logo that fades out to white (nothing) on the left side like it is in motion. I made an opacity mask in Illustrator so that it can be placed on top of an image in Illustrator and it fades away, and doesn't fade to white and knock out part of the photo under it. Is there a way to preserve this so I can bring the logo into ID and place it on top of an image or colored area, and it doesn't treat the faded out area as white? Thanks.

    Have you tried File > Place of the Illy file? You don't say what you have already tried.

    Mike, I originally placed it and it came in with the white. But you made me think to drag it straight from Illy into ID and it worked. Thanks.

    MR,

    Did you place an EPS or an AI file? EPS files do not support transparency effects, so the fade would be opaque.

    Do a native .ai file with PDF compatibility instead. EPS is old and moldy and doesn't support the new transparency features.

    OK, Actually a placed AI worked great, but a placed EPS doesn't, only a dragged EPS. I'll stick with the AI. Thanks.

    No such thing as a dragged EPS. I say: Never drag; never copynpaste; always Place that file!

    never copynpaste;

    Do, by all means, copynpaste if you want to edit the artwork in InDesign.
    But only then.

    I drag Illustrator files across to Indesign when I want to be able to color them from the ID pallette, things like brush strokes.
