illustrator to freehand look like s#*t

If you can have acces to the illustrator file itself or if you have
illustrator try opening the EPS there fist. Save in illustrator format and
open the AI file in FH. You will have better luck. What you are likely
seeing on screen is the preview image for the EPS. Anopther trick is to
print the EPS file to Distiller and try opening the resulting PDF in FH this
might give you something to work with.

hey ray...

this may or may not be the way to do it... it works for me (for the vectors... the image files/.bmps don't usually convert... anyhoo,

get that file open in illustrator and save it again as an illustrator 7 .eps.

most vector work should convert fine with the exception of some illustrator specific attributes like custom blends (in newer versions of illustrator).

for some reason I've always had trouble with anything above illustrator 7 for illustrator .eps files.

give it a try and let me know how it works...
