Default Illustrator to PDF full view problem

I am not even quite sure how to explain this extremely irritating problem that I have been working on for hours, so here goes. I have created a document in Illustrator that had images that went outside of the artboard. I made the those parts of the images transparent by using a clipping mask. The document prints fine and all that, but when I save it as a PDF adn then open it in Acrobat, I have this massive boarder where the rest of the image was. It is not full frame. PLEASE HELP! I am using Illsutrator CS, Acrobat 6 on a windows XP format. Thanks

Are you sure you used crop marks rather than trim marks?

Yeah - I went to filter>create>crop marks. I even went back and brought the crop marks in on the actual document - but that didn't work either. I got it to work cropping it in Acrobat - but that is really irritating too.

OK. I'm flying blind here 'cause I'm still at IL 10, but what you've described is the method for making trim -- not crop -- marks.

In IL 10, crop marks are made via Object | Crop Marks.

Consult manual or help for the differences between the two.

You are right - thanks. I am not sure why they call the other option crop marks instead of trim marks, because that is confusing. I see in version 10 when you do filter>create it is trim marks, but in CS it says crop marks. Interesting.............. I REALLY appreciate it - thanks a bunch!

Wow. Very interesting, indeed. I wonder why...

Glad we got it sorted out.
