Several things delete all unused colors, symbols brushes etc. Do not embed a profile
save as a PDF if you wish.

Save it as and editable .pdf file from Illustrator.
Or do you have Aladin Suffit? It's free. It comes in a package with something called DropStuff. Find that application (it's usally in Internet Utilities) Just drag and drop the file onto the application icon. All though I haven't seen a big difference in file size doing this lately.
