You can develop impressive RPG's with Flash. But focus on what you want to
have happen in the RPG. (For example: Do you need the game to remember a
player's name when they continue playing days, weeks, years later? If so,
then you'll need to develop a permanent way of saving their name. Which
means saving to an external data file which requires ASP or PHP. (Both ASP
and PHP are server based languages; which also means you'll need a server
running to support the information.)) Flash can temporarily remember a name
while the program runs, but it cannot permanently save it for future
reference. Once the game is closed, the name is lost.
Define how you want the game to perform first and then venture into whether
Flash will be the program for you.

Flash can save the names and scores etc on the users computer with
SharedObject, it just can't save that information on the server.
It's fine for single player games though.
