Images on Master Pages Problem (CS)
I am creating a master page which will have a blank picture box put on it so that I can add a different picture on each new page. In quark you can do this and select the picture box on the new pages and change the image. In InDesign (CS) this doesn't seem to be possible as all master page items seem to be fixed. Is there a way of doing this rather than having to draw a new picture box every time?

Yes, On the pull down menu on the pages pallete, select "override all master page items".
You can select more than one page at a time if you want. (hold down the shift key and select pages on the pages pallete).

Thanks very much, I knew there must have been a way. Perhaps I should re-read the manual

Re: Images on Master Pages Problem (CS)
Just use the file place command and place the cursor over the frame. It
should place just fine without selecting the frame first. Same goes for
draggin an image from the desktop or finder.
You need to get that Quark workflow out of your head. <g>

Re: Images on Master Pages Problem (CS)
I try to get away from Quark, but at work I have to use Quark 90% of the time but at home I use InDesign.
I have found out most ways of doing things in InDesign that I do in Quark, it was just this one that has eluded me.

Re: Images on Master Pages Problem (CS)
I put guides on the masters for this, which is effectively the same as
putting a frame on the master as Bob described.

Yes - particularly regarding master pages. In my experience, the differences bin this area are among those that cause the most confusion for new InDesign users who are used to Quark.

Re: Images on Master Pages Problem (CS)
No, it's not. If you just want to place an image into a master frame,
that's a workaround. The method I posted is, IMO, the best way.
