Imported PDF cannot be ungrouped

    Check your links pallet under Window-Show Links. Does anything show up? If not select your art. Go to Object-Clipping Mask-Release. If it's grayed out there is no clipping mask. Do the same with the Compound Path-Release. Then make sure it's not grouped (Object-Ungroup).

    When you're saving as a .pdf is there any option to maintain editability?

    Try holding down the Command and Option keys and hitting 2.

    That worked (object->clipping mask->release, then ungroup as normal) ... hmm. New and interesting way things can be grouped together ...
