Re: Importing A Tiff with background Transparency
Well, you can also look at it as that there is a slight bug when placing rgb transparent tif files.
The bug is that it does not prevent placing the file with the warning and flattens it instead.

Re: Importing A Tiff with background Transparency
Good point, JK.
Actually, I was a step behind you. I was merely asking if I'm right that you can't Place a CMYK or GS TIFF with transparency? That is, after the warning, you're simply returned to your document as it was before you tried to place? In other words, in the case of these two formats (as opposed to RGB), it's not that the file is flattened by AI, it's that AI won't Place it at all?
I wouldn't dare claim to know whether ANY of these actions are bugs or simply logical behavior. I don't know enough about this stuff to pretend. I just want to know if the behavior I'm seeing is the behavior you're seeing so I can be sure to learn the right things and draw the right conclusions.

Re: Importing A Tiff with background Transparency
Yes, to the same results and behavior you posted regarding placing transparent tif files in the 3 color modes.
I also know this is academic for you as well as me because we utilize psd or pdf for transparent placed Photoshop images. (as well as Wade)

Re: Importing A Tiff with background Transparency
I do not believe it would actually be considered a bug but a limitation of AI CS as it simply does not support as of yet advanced or if you wish layered tiffs. You can bring it into ID and preserve the transparency but then ID does not support the layers in either layered tiffs or photoshop.
The support for Advance tiffs support in AI and the support for .psd and tiff layers
in ID are old feature request of mind.
I have just got tired to posting it and don't even know why I am making it known again. I have no hope of it happening.

Importing A Tiff with background Transparency
I have Illustrator CS and I am trying to import a tiff with a transparent background. When I open it in photoshop 7 the background is transparent.
But when I paste or place it into a layer in illustrator it contains a white background. How can I get it into Illustrator with background transparency?
Why is this happening?[/QUOTE].
Checking off the layer when the save window pops up works too!Unregistered Guest
