Importing vector eps - Macromedia Freehand

When I import my purchased vector eps I just get a placeholder box with an x in it. How do I get it to show up?...

EPS files have a preview image, on a PC it is a tiff file and on a Mac
it is Pict (or was before OSX). Chances are, the EPS you have was done
    on a different computer platform.

If you open the EPS file in Illustrator you can choose the type of
preview you want. Note that the image will look fine when sent to a
    Postscript printer.

There's three possible ways around this that I can think of, assuming you have
    the right facilities...

1: Open the EPS in PhotoShop, though you'll lose its vector qualities.

2: Open the EPS in Illustrator and then save as a '.ai' Then import the .ai
    doent into FreeHand

3: Turn it into a PDF and import the PDF into FreeHand.
There are three ways of doing this...
a: Import EPS into FreeHand - export as PDF - import PDF produced by FreeHand
b: Change the file extension to .ps and then use Acrobat Distiller to turn it
into a PDF - import PDF into FreeHand
c: Import the EPS into FreeHand and then chose the print comand. Instead of
sending it to a printer, select the option within the print window to save it
as a PDF (not all print drivers have this), then import the PDF into FreeHand.

All but option 1 should retain vector qualities.

    turn it

Distiller can convert .eps files without changing the file extension. You
just need to change the file type filter in the open dialog.
