Default Importing XML in InDesign CS

I hope this hasn't already been answered somewhere on this forum (but I
haven't been able to find it if it has!). Can anyone recommend a very
basic step-by-step guide to importing XML into InDesign CS files?

I'm afraid that I don't know myself but I've starred this thread as I'm
interested in a basic guide myself. The InDesign manual isn't
especially helpful on the subject, in terms of highlighting the extent
of the possibilities with this feature.
