incorrect letter spacing
Using Distiller 7.0.7, OS 10.4.5, Adobe PDF Printer 7.0, Quark 6.5.2.
Creating pdfs using the Quark print function/Save as PDF/Standard Distiller settings with the Adobe PDF ppd. The letters have incorrect spacing. Figure 4.6 no longer has a space after Figure; the word proportion looks like pro portion. Does not happen all the time but often enough that the publisher/author thinks the job is incorrect. Seems to be when there has been tracking applied to a paragraph, but I'm not sure. All the fonts are Type 1 and have been embedded.
If we create a press-ready postscript file first and then distill it this problem does not occur. But we do not have the time to continually create this extra step. And the file sizes are enormous.
Any suggestions?

Re: incorrect letter spacing
This is a problem with Quark and the Mac OS X printing feature.
Contact Quark.
