Default increase parition size for /home on AIX 5.1

    Hi,

I have AIX 5.1 installed and the jfs2 partition type was selected during the
install. The disk is 9gb, but I don't beleive this space is fully used by
the partitions. I need to increase the size of /home which is partition hd1.

I am not familiar with the appropriate commands to use, but I discovered the
extendlv command so I have been able to increase the partition size using
    this command : extendlv hd1 100

Is this all I need to do ?
I did a 'df' and the allocated and free blocks are the same before and after
the extendlv was issued. I therefore assume that I need an additional
command to make use of the extra space ?

Can somebody explain to me what I need to do ?

    Thanks, Tim.

    smitty chjfs2
    select /home

    Under SIZE of filesytems
select Megabytes (put the curor on the Unit Size line and hit F4)
for Number of Units, just use +32 to add 32MB (make sure you
use the plus sign - this tells the system to ADD that much space)

Default Re: increase parition size for /home on AIX 5.1

    shoot, you said 5.1, not 5.2 - sorry - i gave 5.2 instructions

    5.1 is similar, do this

find out how many MB you want to add to /home
    multiply that # by 2048 (e.g you want to add 10 MB, 10 x 2048 =
    20480)

issue the command: chfs -a size=+20480 /home (again, make sure you
use the + sign before the value)

the math may be confusing, here's an explanation

up to and including aix 5.1, you have to specify 512byte blocks when
    allocation filesystem size

in AIX 5.2 you can specify 512b blocks, MB, or GB units

    Kent,

I used smitty chjfs2, selected /home and then changed the current size to
+32 and pressed enter. This worked.

    Thanks, Tim.
