Default Increasing Recent Document list numbers?

In W*****s there's a registry edit to increase the number of documents
that can be viewed in the "Recent Documents" list. Does anyone know if
there is a similar edit in Ubuntu? (5.10)

    For KDE:

Rightclick kicker, configure panel, 'menus' tab, 'Maximum number of
    entries'.

There must be. I checked my ~/.recently_used file and it has approx. 500
entries on it. I can't see why they would just keep adding to it if there
was never going to be any way to use those entries.

Took a quick peek in the config editor but didn't come across anything.
    Hmmm.
