Default Indent to Here character problem

I often need to put text in a rounded text box (i.e. numbered song titles with writers underneath) for CD imprinting. When I use the Indent to Here character (along the left curve) it fails to line up to where I've placed the character, is this normal behavior? Is there a work-around--other than the ol' space bar space route? Should I make a feature request, or a bug report?

I don't know why it's not lining up, but a tab character should work.

No, it doesn't. I'd need a new tab for each song title.

Can you use, instead, a paragraph indent (accessed though the Paragraph palette or paragraph side of the Control Palette)?

Personally, I have found the 'Indent to Here' function less than acceptable in certain situations (such as this).

I tried it but it still wants to "follow" the curve of the text box on the left side. The right column text is correct, though.

it fails to line up to where I've placed the character

That depends on how you define "Here" in "Indent to here".
In InDesign it means "in this distance from the left edge of the frame"

Using shift-return and tabs should do the job for what you want.

Or (second idea) use a rectangular text frame for the content and a circular text wrap to whip it into shape.

Cindy, you will need tocreate two frames, one picture or object frame with rounded corners, and another text frame on top of your rounded frame. Otherwaise you will need to have a big marginf on the frame so taht the indent to hear would work. The problem is that InDesign now is considering the round radius vetor as the delimeter of the frame and pushes the text accordingly.

Cindy: don't use spaces. Very unprofessional and may cause you more problems than ever down the line. Indent-to-here has caused grief in the past when used with tabs and certain types of justification.

It sounds like you need to use separate frames for graphics effects and text. Any alteration away from rectangular when it comes to text frames can cause problems for alignment.

Gerald's suggestion (using text wrap) is much better if you want your text to follow a shape.

    Gerald,

I understand your post no. 5 but not no. 6, wouldn't it still insist on following the curve?

Re: Tabs: Are you basically saying that if I have, say, 6 song titles I need 6 different tabs?

    Marco,

I'm lost on your first two sentences.

    My apologies
Create an object or pricture frame with your round corners, then create, if desire on anohter layer, a text frame to place all your song titles.

    Cindy,

you are right, that wasn't very clear. Try this (try it first in an empty doc to understand the principle):

    - create a circle the size of the disc
    - create a text frame that is very slightly smaller than the circle
    - fill the text frame
    - apply a text wrap with "wrap around shape" to the circle and check the "invert" option

-> the text follows the curve of the circle but its frame edge is still straight vertical
Since "indent to here" regards the frame edge as relevant, it will give you a straight vertical indent now instead of one that follows the curve as before.
