Default InDesign 2.0 will not install on Windows XP Pro -- AT ALL

I have administrator rights on my user account, and I have the password for "the" administrator account as well. No dice on either account.

When I attempt to run the setup.exe file, I get an hourglass for about 4 seconds, and then just nothing. A big nothing. It doesn't even attempt to install.

This is really frustrating. My old computer is about two hours away from death's door and I can't get this software to install on my new one. Of course, I have a project that HAS to get done now, so I'm royally screwed.

I've tried copying the files to the hard drive, no luck. I've turned off all virus software, no luck.

Adobe, why have you foresaken me???

The CD is fine. I even tried re-installing it on an old Win98 machine -- with absolutely NO PROBLEMS.

Just to make it even more frustrating, I dug out my old copy of InDesign 1.5 and tried to install it on the XP machine. It does exactly the same thing at 2.0: Nothing!

    UGH!

I successfully installed Adobe InDesign 2.0 on my Windows XP Professional OS. I shut down every program, including the anti-virus software and my DSL connection. Try to do a reboot, go to task manager and shut everything off, and try to install that way. Good Luck!

Cheryl, there's something 'wrong' with your XP system. The fact that 1.5
won't install either, yet you're fine on 98, tells us that the XP system
    itself is the problem.

Start by turning off everything in the system tray...in the right-hand
corner by the clock. Right-click everything and select Exit or Close or
    whatever. Try installing again.

I finally did it. The idiots who imaged my machine added a secondary "hidden" virus protection software that I managed to find and disable. What a nightmare!

Thanks for all your help, everyone. This was so frustrating!
